Changing to Ubuntu Operating System

Ubuntu Linux operating systemTo begin with, let me say ‘Who can install Ubuntu’. Having been experiencing this wonderful operating system for more than three years (at the time of writing this article), I would say that every normal computer user who hasn’t yet given thought of trying out an open source OS should install Ubuntu. This OS is a great option to start with to get yourself into the amazing world of Linux distributions. Ubuntu makes the transition process a lot simpler by making the user comfortable with its usage. It is no rocket science to get to know this OS, at-least for normal use; in fact it is very simple that you will start feeling like an expert within days itself.

Normal operations

Basic functions like cut, copy, paste is same as it is in Windows. To browse through your files is also straight forward. Just click on of your drive icons, and the file manager will open up letting you manage your files like you do in Windows. To install and remove various applications, use Ubuntu Software Center. To tweak the OS settings, just click on the ‘Settings’ icon located in the launcher. Here you will find all the options that you will need to make your Ubuntu behave and look the way you like it.

Community support

Ubuntu is maintained by Canonical which is an organization that is well established providing timely updates and new version releases. What I have understood from company’s official website is that they have bigger plans, other than Ubuntu desktop OS; they are having the server edition too. They are also working towards rolling out Ubuntu for smart phones. These are good signs as far as the future of the OS is concerned.

The operating system also enjoys a strong community support which means that if faced with problems help is always around the corner. This is very impressive than it sounds because, there hasn’t been much occasions where I am faced with an issue to which couldn’t find solution with a simple Google search.

In their official site you can find detailed documentation regarding different installation procedures. All you have to follow the steps of the procedure you choose and you can get your Ubuntu up and running in no time.
